Tuckahoe Clubhouse gets a new patio

Jay Roberts outlines some of the plans for the new patio at Tuckahoe Clubhouse which should be completed by May. “It will be two or three years before the plantings are mature,” Roberts notes.“This is a work in progress. The flexible layout allows us to adjust seating areas based on how the space is used."

When the preschool unexpectedly closed down at Tuckahoe Clubhouse in 2018 the Wintergreen Property Owners Association immediately started coming up with plans on how to adapt the Stoney Creek facility’s various spaces to serve its membership as a community hall. Every room now has a designated use. It has become a very busy place.

The last space to be renovated is the former school’s playground that until recently sat behind a white picket fence between the parking lot and the building.

The fence is now gone as is the rotted mulch and dirt surface. Now there is a professional hardscape in place; landscaping and furniture will be in place by May.

This is the type of wood furniture that will be under the sunshade sails.

Jay Roberts, Executive Director of WPOA, is getting a lot of questions about what’s coming to the 800-square-foot space. “Everyone seems to have an idea about what should and should not go here,” Roberts says. “We’ve given this a lot of thought and, looking at how Tuckahoe is being used now, we have decided that a classic patio space would be most useful here.”

When complete the patio area will have five distinct seating areas. Sunshade sails and umbrellas will provide relief from the sun in three areas. Extensive planting will separate the patio from the parking lot and visually tie the patio space to the building. “It will be two or three years before the plantings are mature,” Roberts notes.

“This layout is flexible so as to allow for some fine-tuning, depending on how we see it used,” Roberts says.

Tuckahoe Clubhouse is owned and operated by the Wintergreen Property Owners Association.
