Jeff Walker (540-377-2285) and his assistant Bob installed three new windows in my mountain home. They were courteous, competent, and very reasonable. They did a beautiful job, finishing it in just two days.

Central Virginia Residential Services (540-874-2877) just renovated the outdated yellow bathroom in our condo. First, Charles Grandstaff reviewed pictures and discussed possibilities over the phone. I was impressed with his professionalism and detailed recommendations, so we arranged a meeting in person. He took his time discussing ideas, then promptly returned a detailed estimate and contract via email. He listened to my ideas, offered adaptations, and offered ideas that I hadn’t thought of, and finally incorporated all of this into the final project. I appreciated his patience and flexibility and how he returned, in the end, to be sure every detail was complete. We trusted him enough to do the renovation while we were away for two weeks. They have serviced our chimney for the past three years and are very professional, extremely nice and easy to work with, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend Mike Campbell and Campbell's Mountain Stone & Boulders (540-471-7800). My property is a big mulch job, and on two separate occasions, Mike has brought a truckload of mulch for me to approve prior to spreading. When I start my DIY French Drain job, I will get the stone and materials from Campbell's. Mike and the team do great work at a reasonable price and will make sure you're satisfied with the outcome. We had our pool table repaired by Doug Carter out of Lynchburg (434-401-3212). He and his brothers did fantastic work repairing the table rails, leveling the table, and replacing the cloth. Doug charges by the job, plus $200 travel time for the round trip to the top of the mountain; we found that given few pool table repair people around it was worth it. We were happy with the work. White Glove Cleaning - 434-987-6449

We’d like to reaffirm an earlier Wintergreen Bulletin Board recommendation for Crystal Allen and White Glove Cleaning. With an upcoming surgery and a visit from inspector mom, we opted to hire a deep cleaning service and searched references from the WBB. We settled on White Glove and we must say it was really impressive.  Crystal came to assess and then brought what seemed like an army for a thorough half-day deep cleaning. I swear to goodness that every surface area regardless of orientation was cleaned. The house is spotless, but if a person can "feel" cleanliness then we do. Crystal’s stand-out attributes are dedication to high standards, empathy, and kindness to her staff. There are simply no words to express the professionalism, quality of work, timely response, and most importantly kindness, warmth, and caring attitude that I recently received from Crystal Allen and James Martin with White Glove Cleaning LLC (434-987-6449, cwhiteglove@aol.com). Although I had spoken with Crystal on several occasions, she had never provided any services at the home on the mountain that my husband and I have owned for many, many years. My Subaru Outback unexpectedly started cranking unenthusiastically on Thursday. I drove to Fisher Auto (434-361-2230) in downtown Nellysford and asked if I needed a new battery for the car. They connected a small computer to the car under the dash, put a meter on the battery, and found everything to be as it should. The car battery was fine, but the charge was a touch low. Checking over all of the wirings, they found one of the cables on the battery's two posts was slightly loose. That was it. Cost for this instant, drive-up service provided with a sense of humor: nothing. It's how they sell batteries. I have gotten a similar service shopping for windshield wipers there. He recently refinished two pieces for us (a chest of drawers and a cedar blanket chest) that were tired and worn. Kristen Nicks - 434-942-4457

We live in Stoney Creek and have used Kristen Nicks (434-942-4457) to check on our two dogs when we are away for several hours as well as to let them out or feed them. She is outstanding and even texted us pictures of the dogs playing in the backyard when she checked on them. She clearly is an experienced dog trainer. She even keeps a first aid kit with her. If you need basic dog training or walking, I would heartily recommend fellow Stoney Creek resident Kristen Nicks (434-942-4457). Kristen has terrific insights on dog behavior development, years of experience with different types of dogs, and has worked wonders with my pup as he learned new commands and socialization skills. She also is a very reliable resource for dog walking and is quite knowledgeable about the best area hiking paths for pet safety and exercise.
